An oil seed press works by putting the seeds under pressure while being hauled through a tapered chamber. Because of the compression and the increasing temperature created by the seed oil press procedure, oil is expelled, while the material is shunted away. A process called transesterification is how oils and fats are converted into biodiesel. Biodiesel is a methyl ester-based fuel made from oil or fat. It's a renewable fuel which could be used with no alteration or little in diesel engines. Alcohol is coupled with a catalyst that breaks the material also known as biodiesel, and glycerin a biodiesel co-product. The benefits of biodiesel over petroleum diesel are several. The most obvious benefit is that it's derived from renewable sources, unlike the ever-depleting oil of the Earth. Biodiesel is biodegradable and nontoxic. It burns cleaner, with studies demonstrating the combustion of biodiesel emitting 40-60 percent less greenhouse gas compared to petroleum diesel. Adding biodiesel reduces the wear on engine components, prolonging their life because the biodiesel component makes the fuel lubricating. The industry is not as established in the US as in Europe. But interest in non-fossil fuels is driving both businesses and individuals to produce biodiesel fuel, with the consequence of increasing production. No matter what the oilseed crop, it can't be turned into bio diesel without extracting the oil from the seeds. This is achieved by using high-pressure presses. These presses can be driven hydraulically or can be a screw press. The canola seed is placed in the press. The compression process squeezes the oil . An assortment of styles and sizes of presses are available. The beginning of bio diesel often starts at the farm. Research is showing crops such as canola is proving to be the best choice regarding availability and return to produce the energy source.
